Dr Zacest performs the full range of procedures for surgical treatment of brain tumours including minimally invasive stereotactic biopsy, minimally invasive endoscopic base of skull approaches, open surgery and radiosurgery in selected cases.
Dr Zacest collaborates with radiotherapy colleages to perform radiosurgery for selected brain tumours including metastases, recurrent inoperable benign tumours and accoustic neuromas. Treatment is performed as a day procedure and patients go home in the afternoon. A new linear accelerator and planning software is being commisioned at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and will soon be operational expanding the range of conditions suitable for this minimally invasive therapy.
Dr Zacest performs a full range of neurosurgical spinal surgical procedures for tumours, degenerative and developmental conditions including minimally invasive and instrumented fusion where necessary.
Dr Zacest has had comprehensive training in and performs a full range of procedures for trigeminal neuralgia. These include glycerol rhizolysis, radiofrequency rhizolysis and microvascular decompression. Radiofrequency rhizolysis is performed under anaesthetic sedation, is well tolerated and the patient is dicharged home later in the day. Patients who undergo microvascular decompression are discharged after 4-5 days.
